The people. The ideas. The week.
2026
Report.
Hawaii’s technology ecosystem,
in motion.
A week in Hawaii. A wider perspective.
Where tech meets Hawaii.
Hawaii Tech Week exists to empower our people, grow Hawaii’s tech economy, and build global connections that create opportunities for us. Year one, we galvanized the community and willed the week into existence. Year two, we showcased Hawaii’s leading CEOs, accelerators, and organization leaders. In year three, we paired the best of Hawaii’s tech and ecosystem leaders with key insights from across the world.
Dawn Lippert shared what it takes to build from Hawaii with global reach. Miki Hardisty brought practical engineering insight. GitHub leaders, Chris Do, and AI policy analyst Aqib Zakaria added expertise from across tech, business, and policy. Across 75+ events, people learned from each other, worked on problems, and built relationships across our islands and beyond.
The week delivered: people were hired, capital was deployed, and new deals were locked, alongside major partnerships and commitments. In the past 28 months since we announced HTW, we’ve built a week that connects the next generation of technologists and builders with people who can help accelerate their trajectory. These are the opportunities we’re working to create for Hawaii.

Content & audience
The week beyond the room.
We invested more in content this year: interviews, session excerpts, and coverage from across the week. We want people to see what Hawaii’s founders, leaders, and creators know and are building. Producing and sharing those stories is becoming a bigger part of HTW.
Not everyone can make it to an event. Content extends the reach of the week and brings more attention to the people and organizations involved.

Ideas in practice
From conversation to the command line.
Technical sessions got into AI architecture, model selection, and building with the tools. Participants could move from a discussion to a workshop and put what they learned to work.
Orchestrating the AI Product explored how data, agents, and context engineering fit together. Miki Hardisty’s hands-on model-selection workshop addressed a practical engineering question: which model is right for the job? The session focused on evaluating models against real use cases and weighing quality, latency, and cost.
Build with Grok Bot gave participants time to build together, get help, and try the tools. Free credits from SpaceXAI gave participants opportunities to experiment.
Elsewhere, sessions examined motion capture, while students at Hawaii Pacific University’s hackathon developed prototypes. At ʻIolani’s AI in Education Talk Story, students and educators brought classroom experience into the conversation about AI. The focus was on how to use these tools in real work.

A week to showcase our ecosystem.
Local leaders. Global perspectives.
We built Hawaii Tech Week to bring more of our ecosystem together. Companies, founders, investors, educators, and event hosts brought their expertise to the program.
Gidens brought Chris Do, founder of The Futur, to Hawaii for Rooted Here, Recognized Everywhere. In his full-day workshop, local entrepreneurs worked through value-based pricing, leadership, and decisions facing their businesses.
At Hawaii Pacific University’s AI strategy panel, CEOs and executives from Zippy’s, Bank of Hawaii, and the State of Hawaii joined a discussion about how organizations are approaching AI. Elsewhere, participants connected with GitHub and Microsoft leaders, Y Combinator founders, public officials, and tech and industry leaders from San Francisco and San Diego to Singapore and elsewhere in Asia.

Purple Maiʻa brought a Hawaii-rooted approach to technology and education. Rooted Futures centered Hawaiian knowledge, place-based learning, and the role of educators and technologists. Its technology arm, ʻĀina Foundry, hosted The Sovereign Stack, examining open AI models, locally owned hardware, and community governance.
Climate technology had a place in the program, too. Elemental Impact’s Deployment Lab examined what it takes to put climate technologies to work in Hawaii, with discussions on permitting, wildfire resilience, and renewable fuels followed by small-group work on deployment challenges.

From education to what comes next.
Students and educators worked through what AI means for their classrooms, careers, and the companies they want to build. Hawaii Pacific University’s Build with AI: Student Hackathon focused on researching problems, developing prototypes, and preparing pitches. ʻIolani’s AI in Education Talk Story brought classroom perspectives, while the University of Hawaii’s Built for This addressed the transition into work with Miki Hardisty, Guy Kawasaki, and alumni voices.
“If I can tell the story and put 15 to 20 young people on the map, I think that’s a huge win.”

Founders put their companies forward.
From founder coffees to demo stages, entrepreneurs shared what they were building. Blue Startups’ Cohort 18 Demo Day put twelve companies on stage, while Hub Coworking Hawaii’s Beta Brews centered on product feedback. Hawaii Founders Coffee offered an informal setting for exchanging ideas, and Chris Do’s workshop explored pricing and business decisions.
Founders and investors also got together to discuss capital. OM Venture Capital and Hawaii Angels’ Investor Night: Angels, VCs & LPs explored the founder fundraising experience and how investors make decisions. Nēnē Ventures’ Defending the Indo-Pacific: 2027 & Beyond extended the conversation to emerging technology, regional security, and business opportunities for founders, operators, and investors.

More routes into technology.
The program brought together people at different stages of their careers. Hawaiʻi Women in Tech contributed employer perspectives and career conversations through Companies on the Rise, its skills panel, and a pau hana. At Pasifika in Tech, professionals, founders, creatives, and researchers shared Oceanic perspectives on technology. Engineering, product, design, and leadership all had a place.

Passing the knowledge on
Behind the robots, a coach.
For Jared Haiola, robotics is a way to teach students STEM and life skills together. Building a robot puts science, technology, engineering, and math into practice. Working as a team means learning to communicate, solve problems, and keep going when something doesn’t work.
At Meet Hawaii’s Championship Robotics Teams, Jared joined us to discuss the coaching behind that process. The demonstrations showed the engineering. Jared’s coaching showed how students learn to work through problems, support their teammates, and keep improving.

Culture, connection, and place
Time together, beyond the sessions.
The opening weekend began at Hoʻokuaʻāina on August 29, followed by yoga and recovery the next day. We started with time in the loʻi and a chance to reset before the main program.
Monday’s official kickoff party brought founders, builders, and creators to the Ambassador Hotel in Waikiki. Presented with The Goods Social Club and featuring CALDEE, the party gave people a chance to meet before the week got underway.

At Worldbuilding, The Goods Social Club and OurSpace explored how music, fashion, storytelling, and cultural identity shape a business. Pasifika in Tech brought professionals, founders, creatives, and researchers together at PEWA, to discuss technology from an Oceanic perspective.
The Novus Group’s Recharge Lounge at Hello Again included a collaborative reading of Magnifica Humanitas, presented with Pythia and Cristina Moon. Participants discussed AI, responsibility, human dignity, and what those questions mean for Hawaii.
“The magic happens hopping between the relevant events, and in those back-room conversations, those coffees in between events.”

The Official Mixer
Bringing the week together.
On Friday, September 4, 250+ people joined us at 1938 Indochine for the Official Mixer, bringing together attendees, event hosts, and sponsors from across the week. It was a chance to pick up conversations started at earlier events, meet people whose paths hadn’t yet crossed, and spend time together beyond the sessions. We closed the week with people from across the program in one room, catching up and making plans for what comes next.

“It really brings the Maui, the Oahu, the Big Island people, the investors flying in from San Francisco, plus our local [Honolulu] ones, together in the same room. … We really want to bridge people together and give them that time one-on-one in person.”
To everyone who participated in the week
Mahalo.
To the sponsors, event hosts, speakers, attendees, creators, and everyone who took part: thank you for the ideas, energy, and time you brought to Hawaii Tech Week. I’m grateful to be building this with you, and I look forward to what we can create here in Hawaii.
